Anny Hoogwerf

It is with sadness and joy that we announce that Anny Hoogwerf, beloved wife of Willem Hoogwerf, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Anny and Wim were married in 1950 and immigrated to Canada in 1952. They lived in Blackie, High River and Longview before settling down in Calgary in 1965. Anny had a number of rewarding careers but she enjoyed retirement best. She delighted in the fellowship of the McDougall United Church and volunteered there for many years. She had fun at aquasize, the theatre, Stampeder games, and with her friends at TOPS. She loved Spruce Meadows and won the honour to name one of their foals in 1995. She was a passionate gardener and everyone delighted in her garden parties. She baked the best muffins, gave the best hugs, wore the jauntiest hats and shared lively discussions and laughs with her many friends. Our dear mother is lovingly remembered by her children Sara (Gary), Leo, Rosemary (Ken), and Robin. She will be forever remembered by her grandchildren, Mark, Sean, Daniel, Caitlin, Stacey, Steven, Jessica, two great- grandchildren and extended family in Canada and Holland. A Memorial Service will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E.) on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
