SUTHERLAND, Wayne Robert (Suds)
August 2, 1952 - Vancouver, British Columbia
December 14, 2018 - Calgary, Alberta

Wayne, beloved husband of Janice Tackaberry of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the age of 66 years.
Wayne was born in Vancouver and grew up playing lacrosse in Burnaby, eventually playing Jr. A with Burnaby Cablevision and professionally with the Montreal Quebecois in the original NLL. He also played Sr. A for the Nanaimo Timbermen before bringing his talents to Calgary with the Sr. B Mountaineers. Wayne was a coach of the Mountaineer Junior B Lacrosse Club for many years, including eleven appearances at Founders Cup Junior B National Tournament with three Bronze, two Silver and one Gold medal finish. He received the James McFall award in 2015 for his outstanding contribution to the sport of lacrosse in Alberta. The RMLL also recently designated a coaching award in Wayne's name and he was the first recipient. Wayne also contributed to lacrosse in countless ways, helping many people learn to love the sport along the way. Wayne also loved to golf, travel and was an avid theatre goer. But above all else, spending time with family and friends was the most important thing to Wayne. He was employed in the Calgary oil & gas industry for forty years and was also an entrepreneur, owning several coffee shops and working in the travel industry.
Cherish your yesterdays, dream your tomorrows, and live your todays. Carpe Diem.
Besides his devoted wife, Janice, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Delaney Tackaberry; his brothers, Dave (Nina) Sutherland and Chris (Gloria) Sutherland; brothers-in-law Hugh Tackaberry (Suzanne Champeaux) and Glenn (Cheryl) Tackaberry; and sister-in-law Nola (Wes) Shewfelt; Wayne will also be lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews, Kristina, Andrew, Scott, Kyle, Kimberly, Brendan, Aaron, and Dannica; and his friend Lauren Cross.
Funeral Services will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, December 27, 2018
