Marian Carpenter

June 11, 1943 - September 3, 2009

After a graceful and courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Marian passed away with her children by her side on September 3, 2009. Marian grew up as a prairie girl in Gleichen, AB, before moving to Yellowknife, NT, where she started her family. She then returned to Gleichen where she raised her children and lived happily for a decade. She eventually settled in Calgary in 1985 after meeting her partner in life and best friend, Jim Shukin. She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to curling, football, and hockey. Marian's spirit, perpetual optimism, infectious laugh, as well as her passion for life inspired everyone who knew her. She had an incredible gift with people. Marian will be missed by her loving family: son Brook (Sylvia) Carpenter; daughter Lara (Dan) Culig; grandchildren, Hanna, Julia, and John-Edward; stepchildren, Jay (Nicole) and Randy; brother Gary (Irene); and sister Pauline. When God built you Marian, he broke the mould! Funeral Services will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E.) on Saturday, September 12, 2009
