Open Table: Reconciliation Mural Wrap Up With Pictures - May 13, 2023
On April 30 and May 13, 2023 McDougall hosted a very special two-part Reconciliation Mural - A Community Participation Project. On May 13th we had the opportunity to hear from Gloria Snow, Indigenous Knowledge Keeper and Vancouver School of Theology Student, who spoke about the Stoney Nakoda world view on their strong spiritual connection and reverence for nature and animals. Shauna Kennedy read several passages from Dr. Rev. Chief John Snow's book, "These Mountains Are Our Sacred Places" and Elder and Cultural and Linquistic Knowledge Keeper Glenda Crawler offered stories from her childhood learning teachings from her elders.
Folks in attendance painted a 1-square-foot canvas, which will all soon be integrated into a larger mural that will be displayed in the west entrance here at McDougall. Participants enjoyed a delicious meal and painted a unique and beautiful collection of canvasses that we are excited to see come together.
The project is funded by the Chinook Winds Region with generous support from McDougall United.
