2021-Q1. Ministry & Personnel Lead Report

First Quarter Report Ministry and Personnel, 2021

Submitted by Peggy Jorgensen

It is hard to believe that our staff have now been working for over one year in continually changing Covid settings.  They have kept professional, despite not knowing what is happening with their jobs and how they can do their jobs.

At the February Annual General meeting, Council approved the Ministry and Personnel Working Group membership for 20201 as myself, Peggy Jorgensen (Lead), Mari Crozier (member), Marjorie MacRae (HR Consultant) and Margaret Holden-Scott (HR consultant).

As M&P Lead, I reviewed and updated anew service contract for the Contemporary Music Leader (Tanya Wan Lim) from Easter to June 2021. After the decisions made at the AGM and Congregational meetings, Operations lead, Joanne Pritchard, and I began work in drafting future contracts for Tanya and our Choral Music Director, Krishan Power. Our Communications Coordinator, Shauna Kennedy, began her medical leave February 26. I worked with her and the UCC benefit plan to assist her in making the application.

In February, I joined a working group set up by Operations to undertake the council- directed initiative to engage an external consultant to conduct a review of our administrative staffing and processes that will help us to make more efficient and effective use of available resources.  A consultant, Anne Yates-Laberge was found, and her report was received by Operations and member of the Council Planning Group on April 7.

M&P member, Mari Crozier, agreed to be Ministry and Personnel’s representative on McDougall’s   Ministerial Search Committee tasked with a part-time Pastoral Care and Family Minister Candidate this spring.

In order for Operations and M&P to implement the future staffing recommendations in the congregationally approved Sustainable Budget Plan, M&P HR Consultant (and Council Planning Group Lead), Marjorie Macrae, has been conducting valuable labor law research to ensure that we treat our employees fairly and equitably.

Additional members are still needed on Ministry and Personnel. If you are interested, please contact me.

Please continue to keep our staff and McDougall leaders in your prayers.
