It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of David Dyck on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Walden Agecare after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday January 6, 2024, at 2PM, here at McDougall United Church.

Obituary
On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, we sadly said goodbye to our wonderful, beloved Husband, Dad and Grandfather, David (Dave) Lloyd Dyck, after a grueling battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Dave was born on July 28, 1945, in Coaldale, Alberta to Frank and Marie Dyck. Dave grew up in Pincher Creek, Alberta where he met and married Seonaid Jenkins in 1969. They had two loving children who they raised together until they parted ways. In June 1996, Dave was remarried to Linda Bymoen and they enjoyed a loving and adventure filled life together including many world travels and a winter home in Mesa, Arizona where he could golf and hike all winter long without the concern of snow.
Dave is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Anica Robinson (Dwayne) and Kurtis (Vicki); five grandchildren, Cody, Joshua and Jaedyn Robinson and Elliott and Anderson Dyck; six of his siblings, Frank Dyck, Vera Janzen, William Dyck, Alvin (Edwina) Dyck, Norman (Karen) Dyck and Debra (Blaine) Goeson; in addition to many nieces, nephews, and amazing friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Anne Froese and Elfrieda Jeges; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dyck; and brothers-in-law, Fred Froese, John Jeges, Dave Janzen and Ike Janzen. Family was very important to Dave, and he spent many summers planning and attending family reunions.
Dave moved to Calgary when he began his adult life, working at the Steel Foundry for many years before joining the Calgary Fire Department in 1977. Dave retired from the Fire Department in 2005, after a rich and rewarding career as a firefighter and an emergency medical technician.
Dave had many special places that he enjoyed spending time. Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and playing golf alongside great friends and family were some of his favorite past times. He also loved building and renovating using his craftsmanship skills to complete projects for many including McDougall United Church and Calgary Camp Kasota West, both places he held very dear to his heart. In the winter, Mesa, Arizona was his preferred home away from home and away from the snow.
Dave had a huge heart and would lend a hand wherever he could. It was important to him to help people in need, especially those who appreciated the help without expectation. He volunteered whenever possible and sometimes juggled multiple things at one time.
In 2016, Dave started experiencing difficulty doing some of the things that he had always been proficient at. This was the beginning of his battle with Alzheimer’s which gradually took over his otherwise able body. By late Fall of 2022, the disease began to progress more substantially, and he went into care in January 2023 at AgeCare Walden Heights, where he lived and was cared for by the loving and attentive staff until his final day.
While it is difficult to say goodbye, we are grateful for the time we had with him before the significant decline. Dave lived a full and blessed life, and we are comforted knowing that he is now at peace and his mind is free.
Our family would like to thank Dr Kasumu, Dr Oghogho Imarhiagbe (Dr. Og) and the staff at AgeCare Walden Heights for their care, kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of David Dyck, if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Calgary or a charity of their choice.
A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street SE, Calgary, AB).
