DOROTHY (DOT) TORPE
June 03, 1929 – May 21, 2023

Dot is survived by her daughter Kathy (Andy) Hrynyk; three grandchildren Stan (Deonne), Diana, Andrew (Mary Jane); great grandchildren Elaine, Jasyme, Mickael, and Rayna; nephews Andy (Marilyn) Jackson, Gary (Alix) Jackson and their children of Calgary. She is predeceased by her husband Lou in 2006, son Brian in 1992 and sister Catherine.

Dot moved to Canada with her mother to join her sister Kay in December 1946. Her dad was in the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and was killed at Dunkirk. She settled in Calgary where she met and married Lou in 1949. Lou joined the air force in 1952.

Dot and Lou spend the next 25 years in the air force travelling and living in various provinces and countries and making lifelong friendships along the way. During that time Dot worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the air force pools. In Goose Bay she was the player coach of the American broom ball team, all fun. Every base put on a show and Dot loved either dancing or hamming it up in a comedy routine.

Her passions were swimming, curling, bridge, their horses and RV-ing with the family. Dot moved back to Calgary in 1972 where she enjoyed working part time at Sears. Dot volunteered at the ATP give shop. She spent 30 years being a volunteer that the Glenmore City Pool was a big part of her life. She made many friends there and considered them her pool family. She enjoyed working with her good friend Ev. Ritz and the great staff.

Dot considered herself lucky with her family, her sister’s family and her neighbors who were all so good to her and especially Shelly who was always there for her. McDougall United Church welcomed her, she enjoyed belonging and coffee times with the Franklins and friends.

Funeral Service held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
