RIPLEY, Harry Edward July 22, 1930 - Edmonton, Alberta September 12, 2018 - Calgary, Alberta Harry Edward Ripley, beloved husband of Edna Ripley of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the age of 88 years. Harry was a professional engineer and member of APEGGA, the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. He started in the Canadian oil and gas industry as a truck driver for Halliburton and several years later, enrolled in Engineering at the U of A where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, and went on to earn his Masters in Petroleum Engineering. He worked in the oil and gas industry for over forty years, retiring from Halliburton as Manager of Engineering - Canada. Following his retirement, Harry consulted as a petroleum engineer which included teaching classes and training oilfield engineers in China and Russia. He published numerous oilfield services technical articles in well respected publications, including the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology. Harry enjoyed travelling, walking, dancing, reading, and history. He had a true zest for life. Harry was a dedicated volunteer for the Prostate Cancer Centre, the Calgary and Alberta Lacrosse Associations, was Calgary Section Chairman (89-90) for the Petroleum Society of C.I.M, and a member of the Oilpatch Old-Timers Association. Harry was a smart, generous, vibrant, straight-forward man who had an excellent sense of humour. Besides Edna, his loving wife of 55 years, Harry is survived by his children, Marga (Tom) Stanley of Astoria, OR, USA, Charlene (John) Ripley of Vancouver, BC, Kyle (Pati) Ripley, of Calgary, AB; granddaughter Alena Ripley; and sister Margaret Iannacone. He was predeceased by his siblings, Martha, Eva, Charlie, Arthur, Louise, and Norman, and parents Charles Powers Ripley and Eleanor Mary Ripley. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Harry's life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, September 23, 2018.
