HOOGWERF, Willem (Wim) Cornelis
June 24, 1928 - Pernis Zuid Holland, The Netherlands November 16, 2018 - Calgary, Alberta

Dearly cherished and loved, Willem (Wim) Cornelis Hoogwerf passed away on November 16, 2018 at the age of 90 years. He is now safely beside his wife of 64 years, Anny, who passed away in 2014. Proud father of Sara (Gary), Leo (Lory), Rosemary (Ken) and Robin, loving grandfather to Mark (Jody), Sean (Amy), Daniel, Caitlin, Stacey (Ryan), Steven, and Jessica and great-grandfather to Mackenzie, Talon, Thys and Madeline. After surviving WWII he and Anny, married in 1950, bravely immigrated to Canada in 1951 to begin a new life. Wim was a skilled metalworker who worked at the Hartell Refinery in the mid 1950s to early 1960s and once moving to Calgary in 1965 worked at S.J. Thompson's Truck Equipment, Matt's Manufacturing, Computalog and Raffin Electric. Always creating, he was the original "MacGyver", making tools and finding practical solutions using the materials he had on hand. As well as being a talented craftsman he enjoyed creating metal sculptures, painting, leatherwork and lapidary. His deep love of nature was shared and instilled in all his children. He never took any day for granted and felt blessed to enjoy all the small wonders that the Good Lord provided. In retirement he gained prowess as a skilled carpet bowler with the Heritage Seniors and Horton Legion leagues. He was a proud Canadian but he also taught us much about his Dutch roots and was even shyly proud of his accent. Our father was a man who was a wealth of knowledge, with a deep work ethic who always did for others because it was the right thing to do. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Monday, November 26, 2018
