Tom Enta

January 8, 1932 – Vancouver, British Columbia
January 5, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Tom, beloved husband, father and grandfather found peace in heaven on January 5, 2018 at the age of 85. Tom was born in the Vancouver area as the eighth of ten children. As a child, his family was evacuated to New Denver, B.C. and then lived in Manitoba, Southern Ontario and Quebec.

After completing an undergraduate degree at McGill University, he received his Medical degree at UBC where he met Marion and later married in 1958. After training in Edmonton, he practiced in Saskatchewan, during the dawn of Universal Health Care in 1961. Tom then moved his family to Wisconsin, where he completed a residency in Dermatology. In 1966, he returned to Calgary to set up his practice and work in the newly completed Foothills Hospital. He was instrumental in the establishment of the University of Calgary's Medical School and continued his passion for teaching throughout his career.

In 2005, Tom was named as one of the Alberta Medical Association's "100 Honored Physicians of the Century". He was an active member of McDougall United Church throughout his life in Calgary.

After he retired, he shared travel and leisure time with many friends and family. Tom is survived by his wife of fifty- nine years, Marion Enta; two children, Jennifer Enta (Chet Chan), Maureen Elwood (Tom); and three grandchildren, Keiko Chan, Sarah and Jayne Elwood. Tom is also survived by his younger sister, Bernice Yamamoto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Tom's life was held at McDougall United Church on January 23, 2018. The family would like to thank Dr. Dargie and Dr. Chan, as well as the rest of the staff of the Acute Geriatric Unit (AGU) at the Rockyview Hospital, for the outstanding and compassionate care Tom received during the past months.
