Planting Seeds of Wellness

McDougall United Church in Calgary is committed to reconciliation and Right relations. With their Fall 2020 Seeds of Hope grant, the congregation set out on a journey of learning and un-learning, healing, community, faith and action.

They convened a series of events at the church in 2021, including a Women's Wellness Day event to honor MMIWG, offering an opportunity for Indigenous women affected by the loss of a loved one to attend a day-long healing workshop. The day focused on spiritual care and gathering to reflect through arts, crafts, traditional teachings and ceremony.

The event was held in October of last year and sadly the host, Indigenous Healer Nellie Rider has since passed away. Demonstrating God's perfect timing, Marilyn Agnew, McDougall's Lead of Right Relations and Shauna Kennedy, Witness to Reconciliation said of Nellie, "How blessed we were to have had her beautiful healing presence that day".

McDougall United Church has no doubt been inspired to continue on the path to reconciliation and transformation. We are grateful to everyone involved in making this vital work possible, from the thoughtful and hopeful United Church people carrying out the programs and projects, to the faithful generous donors supporting these efforts. Gifts to the Foundation ensure that important ministry like McDougall United Church's Reconciliation events can continue.
