Messy Church: King Cake & Mask Making Party Wrap Up - With Photo’s

On February 12, 2022 McDougall hosted a King Cake & Mask Making Event. It was such a fun time where everyone got to enjoy authentic food cooked by Rev. Danah Cox and a few amazing volunteers (names are below). During the dinner (featuring Shrimp Creole, rice and corn dogs) Rev. Cox provided some background on the Mardi Gras Indians. Dessert was a king cake. If you are unfamiliar (like I was), the idea behind the King Cake is that there is a toy baby representing Jesus the king (get it, King cake) hidden within the cake. Whoever finds the baby has to host next years party and invite everyone in attendance, looks like this will be an annual event! Then each of the kids got to create their own Mardi Gras mask, put on some beads and participate in a parade complete with tossed stuffed animals. The kids were given the opportunity to take some beads and stuffed animals home with them. Overall it was a great event. Hopefully you will be able to join us next year.

Volunteers:

We could not have put this event on without the help of some pretty amazing people. Not only was this bunch amazing workers but they are so much fun to be around, they make volunteering fun! We must do a special shout out to Barrie and Carol Clayton who happened to be in the church and got roped into helping out at the last minute. Also thank you to Christine Kennedy’s amazing kids who took care of decorating all the table, they looked great! Marilyn Bates, you are just such an amazing person that can do it all whether it is signing people in or working in the kitchen.
