September News

  • Way to go Jean: On Saturday morning (August 24), someone sent us tickets to attend the Rogers Charity Classic at Canyon Meadows Golf Course.
We hadn’t planned to go, but as we now had complimentary tickets, we decided to get outside and enjoy the beautiful day. This is the only PGA tournament held in Canada and it’s fun to watch these amazing professional golfers that we often see on TV. We spotted a long line of people wanting to try the putting challenge so thought we’d give it a try. I was lucky to sink my long putt on a difficult green to win $1000 for kid’s Camp Cadicasu.  Very exciting! Sunday morning I received a call to return for the playoff’s, where about 17 of us had one putt to see who would end up closest to the hole.  My ball ended up only 2 inches from the cup, close enough to win $50,000 for the Feed The Hungry charity.  Woo-hoo! McDougall has supported Feed The Hungry, financially and with volunteers for years, so I was happy to choose this charity to receive the generous Rogers donation.

  • Kid’s Table - Back on September 15: We are thrilled to announce that our Sunday morning children's programming will resume on Sunday, September 15. During the service, children are invited to join their parents through the beginning of the service, after which they will have an opportunity to go with Rev. Danah Cox, or one of our wonderful Kids Table volunteers, to share a story, and then engage in creative activities. We are also looking to expand our Kid's Table team! If you enjoy working with children, or if you are a parent of a child in our program, we would love to have you join us. While all planning and leading of the program will be managed by our experienced team, we could use an extra set of hands each week to help ensure things run smoothly. Continue reading on website.

  • Notice of Passing: Myrna Waldroff: It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of Myrna Waldroff on August 29, 2024 at the age of 92 years, and just short of Myrna and Don's 65th wedding anniversary which was September 5th. Myrna was a long time member of McDougall United, joining in 1964. A memorial service will be held for Myrna at McDougall United Church on Saturday September 28th at 2PM with Rev. Bill Weaver presiding. See Myrna’s Candle Memorial here.

  • Reflections by Rev. Joanne Anquist: September is such a busy month!  I used to think that when my children were grown, September would be a breeze!  But alas, Churchland is just like school and September brings all the hustle and bustle of a back to school season! September, more than January, is my start of the year. Continue reading on website.

  • October 5th Market: We are looking for baking, On October 5th we are hosting a Fall Artisan Market at McDougall from 10 - 4 pm. As part of the market we will be selling baking at a bake table. All the money that we raise through the market table sales, bake table and concession will go back to the church. We are looking for baking that we can sell. Continue reading on website.

  • Reflections by Rev. Joanne Anquist: On September 17th my Dad celebrated his 94th birthday.  That’s old!  He and my mother still live in the home they’ve shared since 1970.  I must confess there are times I wish they were in a senior’s residence so someone could keep an eye on them, but that is not what they want, so we stand by trusting all will be well. • Fall Artisan Market is coming and we need your help: On October 5th, McDougall is super excited to welcome around 20 curated local vendors to come and showcase what they can do. Along with the market, there will be a kids craft, concession, silent auction and a bake table. You can learn more about the market and see who our vendors are here. All the money raised through the event is going back to the church. We are hoping that you are planning to come and check out the market (and will bring friends) at some point between 10 - 4 pm when it is open. The market team has been hard at work making sure the community knows about this great event and as a result we are hoping that a decent sized crowd will come. What a wonderful opportunity we have to let the community know exactly what McDougall is all about! Continue reading on website
