January News

  • Notice of Passing: It is with sadness that we pass on the news that Stella Patel passed away in July of 2023 and had been in hospital in the months prior.  You can visit Stella’s Candle Memorial here.

  • Notice of Passing: It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Clara Fluker. Clara was a very active member of the church community but had been in extended care for the past number of years.  Visit Clara’s Candle Memorial.

  • 2023 - Property Q4-23 Report: The main elevator to the lower level requires repairs again; these are In process. The outside doors and some interior doors have been re-keyed. Continue reading on the website.

  • We Have a Coffee Machine: The Bean Hive has arrived at McDougall! The Bean Hive has arrived at McDougall. So what is the Bean Hive? it is both a coffee vending machine and a teaching tool. I invested in buying several coffee machines because I am a support worker for people with developmental disabilities and I needed something meaningful for us to work on together.   • 2023 – Fundraising and Marketing Group Quarterly Report: At the Leadership Council in October, I was given the okay to form a Fundraising and Marketing Group at McDougall United. The purpose of this group is two-fold: 1) to increase the amount of money brought in through our current ongoing fundraisers and 2) Look at other fundraising or marketing opportunities that can bring money into the church.   • The Bean Hive Fundraiser: Recently The Bean Hive installed a coffee machine in the Cozy Corner (by the Reconciliation Mural in the southwest corner of the building). If you want a drink, you will notice that the machine only accepts coins. As not everyone carries coins, the machine also uses a special token. These tokens can now be purchased through the office.   • 2023 - Leadership Council report for September to December 2023: Over the past four months, the Leadership Council has been very active with two regularly scheduled meetings along with two extraordinary meetings. Continue reading on website.

  • Town Hall Meeting: Sunday, January 21, 2024: The Leadership Council invites you to a Town Hall Meeting following worship on Sunday, January 21 in the Hospitality Hall. At this meeting we will be sharing information regarding: 1. The shared ministry plan between McDougall, Ogden and Red Deer Lake United churches. 2. A preview of the draft 2024 budget. A light lunch will be served with a free will offering.

  • 2023 - Ministry and Personnel Report Sept. – Dec, 2023: Worked on helping gather information for the trial joint project with Red Deer Lake, then working to update information for ongoing talks. Continue reading on website.

  • Baptism: During the service on January 7, 2024, we got to see the baptism of Emily Philips. A few photos are below. You can watch the baptism in the service here.

  • Ongoing Bottle Fundraiser: If you are looking for an easy way to support the church, why not support our ongoing bottle drive! Did you know that you can get your bottles picked up from your house and then the money collected can be donated to the church? Continue reading on the website.

  • Photo from January 21, 2024: Music is always a big part of our Sunday worship. We have so many talented musicians at McDougall, including the three pictured below. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us and to Valerie MacLeod for sending in this photo.

  • Gift Card Update for December 2023: From November 1 - December 31, 2023 your gift card purchases brought in $561.65 for the church. Thank you so much for your support over Christmas! Continue reading on website.

  • Approval of Memorandum of Understanding for a Shared Ministry Team: The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Shared Ministry Team, which was announced at the Town Hall meeting last Sunday, was reviewed and approved by McDougall’s Leadership Council at their meeting on Tuesday, January 23.
