Charles McArthur
October 16, 1923 - Osage, Saskatchewan
April 14, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta
Charles McArthur of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the age of 95 years.
In 1958, Charles was working for the Eastend, Saskatchewan COOP Lumber. His future wife's dog would wander over to visit him in the lumber yard, and when Bertha came searching for her, Charles seized upon the opportunity to talk to her. Being the most eligible bachelor in the town of Eastend, a romance bloomed, and the rest is history.
Charles worked in in the lumber business for most of his life with stints in Eastend, Cudworth, and Saskatoon. In 1970, Charles, Bertha and Don moved to Calgary where Charles began work with Boychuck Lumber. He retired from Revelstoke Lumber/Rona in 1989.
Charles was an avid hockey player (alias: 'Dirty-Charlie') and for over twenty years every Saturday morning, he met his hockey buddies at the A & W for coffee.
He enjoyed his retired life by doing a little traveling with Bertha, golfing, playing hockey, and watching his grandsons and the Flames play hockey
Charles loved his family, cared about others and their well-being, and was a great grandfather to his three grandchildren. He was very blessed to have his grandson, Justin, stay with him for his last few years in his own home.
He will be missed by his only child, Don and his daughter-in-law, Debra; his three dear grandsons, Ryan, Justin, and Matthew; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha, in 2008; and his sister, Lila, in 1986.
A celebration of Charles life will be held at the McArthur home on Monday, April 29, 2019
