Forever In Our Hearts
In Loving Memory of Myrna Irene Waldroff (NEE: Longmore)
March 1, 1932 — August 29, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Myrna Irene Waldroff who left us on August 29, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on March 1, 1932, in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Myrna lived an extraordinary life marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Myrna was a cherished daughter of Victor and Myrtle Longmore. Her childhood in Biggar and Flin Flon Manitoba was filled with the warmth of family and the simplicity of small-town life. From an early age, Myrna displayed an insatiable curiosity and a deep sense of empathy, qualities that she carried with her throughout her life.
At 21 years of age Myrna and her best-friend Elsie, travelled by ship to England for Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation. This is where Myrna bought her first car, learning to drive a manual transmission, on the opposite side of the road of course. Myrna lived and worked in England for a few years, travelling around the United Kingdom, falling in love with it. Throughout her life she made many trips back to England, Ireland, Scotland, and other parts of Europe
Myrna's professional journey was diverse and fulfilling. Early in her life, she took various jobs as a childcare provider, a "cookie" (camp cook), a post girl for HBM&S, and at Gunston's Photo Studio in Flin Flon, where she discovered her passion for photography. While in the UK she worked for IBM (International Business Machines).
On September 5, 1959, Myrna married the love of her life, Donald Howard Waldroff, in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Their devoted marriage was filled with unwavering love, mutual respect, support, true companionship, and spanned an inspirational 65 years.
In 1962 Donald and Myrna moved to Calgary, building a beautiful home to raise their three
children: Catherine, Brett, and Scott. Myrna was a loving mother who instilled in her children the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance.
A woman of many talents and interests, Myrna was an avid volunteer at McDougall United Church and served as the President of the Alberta Genealogical Society. Myrna had a profound love for jigsaw puzzles, knitting (Myrna made many afghans and a multitude of prayer shawls 200+), beautiful flowers(carnations), and photography. Myrna did research on her and Donald’s family tree leading to their family’s history being immortalized in the five books she published, which are part of several libraries including the Family Search Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, the largest genealogical library in the world.
Myrna's love extended to all of her family. She was a proud grandmother to Matthew (Katelyn), Marissa, and Kayla (Allen), and a doting great-grandmother to Emmett and Alice. Myrna cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Myrna is survived by her beloved husband Donald, her sister Ione Longmore, her children Catherine (Noel), Brett (Christine), and Scott (Paige), her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Myrna was predeceased by her siblings Jack, Harry, Joan, and Arden. Myrna's family and friends take solace in knowing that
she has been reunited with her loved ones and that she is rejoicing with her Heavenly Father.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Myrna’s remarkable life will be held on September 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at McDougall United Church. The family invites all those who were touched by Myrna’s kindness and generosity to join them in honouring her memory. Those who are unable to attend the service in person, it will be live streamed on the church
