OBITUARY
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Clara Fluker, beloved wife of the late Neil Fluker. Clara passed away on January 3, 2024 at the age of 91. Clara was born in Lamont, AB, on February 15, 1932. After graduating from nursing school in Lamont in 1954, she married Neil Fluker and began a life that moved them through various parts of the Oil Patch - Edmonton, Drayton Valley, Kansas, and finally Calgary. Clara and Neil were active supporters of McDougall United Church for decades and took great joy in their many church activities. Following Neil's death from Alzheimer's, Clara founded a support group through the Alzheimer's Society. For ten years, she provided resources and compassionate guidance to caregivers of those with Alzheimer's. Clara was an avid gardener, reader and baker, and loved to share both recipes and gardening advice. She also loved to share the fruits of her labors, whether it be baking from her kitchen, produce from her garden, or young tomato plants from her basement "grow-op" where she started her seedlings. Clara was predeceased by her husband Neil, brother Cecil Doige and parents, Janet and Oliver Doige. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Dr. Margo (Barry), son Craig (Vicki), grandchildren, Janessa, Josh and Marissa Fluker, and by her sisters Jean Berry and Edna Melnyk. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the amazing care Clara received at Cambridge Manor. A Celebration of Clara's life will be held at McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca Street S.E, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 25, 2024, 1:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with Clara's family at MHFH.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary (800-7015 MacLeod Trail SW, Calgary T2H 2K6 www.alzheimercalgary.ca) or to McDougall United Church (8516 Athabasca St SE, Calgary, AB T2H 1S1 www.mcdunited.com).
