Dorothy Young
Dorothy Jewell Young
April 5, 1926 to Jan. 7, 2016
Dorothy left this life in the early morning of Jan. 7, 2016 with her family at her side.
Feeling this great loss and a void in their lives are her son Allan and his wife Connie, Dorothy’s grandchildren, Kristin and Bruce, and her four great grandchildren, Melissa, Lauren, Ethan and Christian. We all loved and feel grateful and deeply blessed that she was part of our lives.
Dorothy was born in Nanton, Alberta to Merle and Bill Ransom. She grew up the Nanton area and in her late teens, met and married George Young.
Their first few years of marriage were spent at the Waldron ranch where George was the ranch foreman and Dorothy prepared meals for all of the ranch hands and became the wonderful cook that we knew her to be.
In 1948, Dorothy and George left the ranch life so that George could accept a job with Commonwealth Drilling in the Leduc oilfield. For the next 11 years Dorothy found herself moving many times with George’s job assignments. Their travels took them from British Columbia to Manitoba and back again with many stops along the way.
Dorothy had many stories and fond memories of those times and the friendships that they formed along the way. Dorothy and George settled in Edmonton in 1959 where George continued to work with Commonwealth Drilling. They lived in Edmonton until 1979 when another job transfer took them to Calgary. More friendships and memories
were made during these years.
Some of Dorothy’s best memories were of Hawaii. After retirement, she and George travelled there many times to spend the winter months in tropical warmth and again formed many new friendships and wonderful memories
Family was extremely important to Dorothy and her joy was unbounded with the arrival of grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren.
Love, family, friends and many great memories made Dorothy’s life very complete and rewarding. Our love and memories of Dorothy will sustain us as we mourn her passing.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband George as well as her parents Merle and Bill Ransom, her sisters Betty and Lorraine and brothers Glen and Donald.
At Dorothy’s request there will be no funeral. If desired, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Alberta, 102 5636 Burbank Cres. SE Calgary, Alberta T2H 1Z6
