Peter Denzel

November 25, 1939 – Kummersdorf/Teltow, Germany May 27, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Peter Denzel, beloved husband of Audrey Denzel (nee Zavada) of Calgary, AB, passed away with family at his side on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Peter was born in Kummersdorf/Teltow, Germany on November 25, 1939. Peter left home at the age of 15 to pursue his Master Craftsmen Meat Cutter and Sausage Maker designation.

The motivation for this pursuit was also to position himself to send food home to his Mom, Dad, Sister, and Brother during difficult economic times. This designation took more than six people to apprentice for and a decade to fulfill. Peter immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1968. Shortly thereafter he met his true love Audrey Denzel (nee Zavada) at the German Canadian Club of Calgary and they were married on November 29th, 1969.

Peter’s passion and enjoyment was the time spent with his family. He looked forward to every family outing, get-together, special moment shared and the day he could finally be called ‘Opa’. Family time included many barbeques and dinners prepared with love, attending hockey games to cheer Robert and Milène, time babysitting Milène, or retiring early to take care of Audrey during her journey with dementia. Opa also enjoyed music (especially Lawrence Welk), biking, fishing, barbequing, growing roses for Audrey, and taking the family dog on long walks. Opa gave all to his family and will be dearly missed.

Besides his loving wife, Peter is survived by his only son and daughter-in-law, Robert Denzel and Monique D’Aoust; and grandchild, Milène Denzel, all of Calgary. Peter was predeceased by his parents.

A Funeral Service was held at McDougall United Church, July 19, 2019.
