November 05, 1932-May 25,2020

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Cecil Day on May 25, 2020.

Cec was the youngest of five children born to Maggie and Stanley Day in Meyronne, SK on November 5, 1932 and was raised on the family farm.

He married Joan Roszell on August 8, 1953 in Moose Jaw, SK and together they raised three children.

Cec became a licensed auto mechanic and worked at a Chrysler dealership for many years before operating his own service station, South Trail Shell, for 25 years. He provided skilled and honest service and built many lasting friendships.

Cec was committed to volunteering his time. Over the years, he served with the South Calgary YMCA Men's Club and assisted with fundraising, worked on the Provincial Apprenticeship Committee for motor mechanics for 6 years, and volunteered at Heritage Park and Gasoline Alley for 24 years.

He was a long time, active member of McDougall United Church where he enjoyed participating and serving in many capacities.

Cec's many hobbies included travelling, gardening, watching the Calgary Flames and antique cars (he was a member of the Alberta Pioneer Auto Club).

Cec had a rare talent for remembering everyone he met and engaging in conversation with genuine interest and compassion. He was the best grandpa that his grandchildren could have asked for. He always had time for them and made each of them feel special. He was always up for games, conversations, and lots of laughter. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Cec is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan, his children, Stuart (Terry) of Briercrest, SK, Kevin (Erin) of Draper, Utah, and Denise (Daren) Patterson of Calgary.
He was loved by his grandchildren, Alex Day, Raymond Friesen, Ian (Lisa) Friesen, Brittany (Scott) O'Shea, Breanne (Ian) Savage, Elizabeth Patterson (Kevin Merkl), Jenna Patterson (Callum Mudd), Douglas Patterson, Adam Day, and Emily Day and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ethan, and Izzy O'Shea, Graham Savage, Riley and Evan Friesen, and Jacob Friesen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Myrtle, Chester, Phyllis, and Clifford.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the ICU and Unit 29 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their care and compassion.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date once full gatherings are permitted.Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca.
