Marg MacKenzie

MARG MACKENZIE
September 2, 1930 - February 10, 2023

Anna Margaret MacKenzie passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Rockyview General Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frank, in March of 2009. A long life well lived.

Marg was born in Wingham, ON, but spent her childhood in Lucknow, ON. Her parents operated Treleaven Lucknow Feedmill, and the mill and its surrounding area, especially the mill pond provided a wonderful place to play with her brothers, and sisters, and to get into trouble. She told many stories over the years about her family life in Lucknow, and all the fun they had. Her only remaining sibling, Ruth (Gary) Suter resides in Victoria, BC, and they have remained very close over the years. They made it through the pandemic together, speaking daily via Skype.

Marg finished high school in Lucknow, ON, and then attended Western University in London, ON. She made many lifelong friends there. Following university, she moved to Sarnia, ON, where she met her future husband Frank, who was working as a chemical engineer at Imperial Oil Company. Before long they were married and moved west to Edmonton, AB, where they raised three sons. The boys ended up having the same sort of childhood that their mother had experienced.

Marg and Frank loved the mountains, and they spent a lot of time hiking and skiing, especially in the Kananaskis area, which Marg particularly loved. Frank was always the driving force seeking new outdoor adventures, but Marg was always there, and she loved it just as much. She was blessed with a very loving spirit; she was very clear minded. Some friends might characterize her as feisty. She had many lifelong friends, and she faithfully maintained contact with many of them over the years. She was a devoted letter writer, and a voracious reader. She was a long time United Church member.

Marg is survived by her three sons, Scott (Karen) of Corner Brook, NFLD, Ken (Renee) of Calgary, AB, and Bruce (Jay) of Vancouver, BC. Marg very much loved her three grandchildren, Brian, Douglas, and Anna MacKenzie. After Frank passed, she took many extended trips with them and their parents. Much fun was had by all.

A private family gathering will be held. If friends desire, a donation could be made to www.legs4africa.org, which is a British charity that provides refurbished artificial limbs to amputees in Africa. Marg was pleased to support this charity.
