MEADOWS, Helah Sophia
September 5, 1925 - April 1, 2021

Helah Sophia Meadows, beloved wife of the late William Ward Meadows of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary on April 1, 2021 at the age of 95 years.

She was the loving mother of Lynn Meadows of Drumheller, Alberta and Laurie Westwood (Bill) of Edmonton, Alberta. She will also be dearly missed by her five grandchildren, Liam (Nicole), Shane, Lauren (Mark), Jocelyn (Danny) and Erica, 6 great-grandchildren Noel, Evie, Celia, Kiki, Teija and Penny.

She will also be lovingly remembered by sisters Donnie Roome, Helen Arnold and Bertie Gray and brother Jack Britton (Lynda), as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Meadows in September 2014 and parents Carman and Bertha Britton of Grandview, Manitoba.

Helah was born in Grandview, Manitoba on September 5, 1925. She began her education riding a horse to a one room school in rural Grandview and completed it at the Angus School of Commerce in Winnipeg. She was married to Bill Meadows on October 4, 1947; they shared a life together for 67 years. They raised their two daughters in Winnipeg and Port Arthur, Ont. before following the family to Calgary in 1994. Helah had a fulfilling career as the executive secretary for the Lakehead Association for Community Living followed by 17 years as the Manager of the United Church Bookstore in Winnipeg. Her early post retirement winters were spent in south Texas with much loved family and friends. Family, both immediate and extended, were of utmost importance to Helah and her one of her greatest joys came from planning and attending family gatherings. She was also an avid seamstress and quilter, creating works of fabric art for her family. In her later years she found a new home at Lake Bonavista Village. The family would like to thank the staff at LBV, Dr. Helen Qian and the staff of units 73 and 59 at the Rockyview General Hospital for their wonderful care and support.

A private Family Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (Prairie View Chapel, 1605 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
