Community BBQ
This event is part of SoCal’s Affirming Series. Wednesdays throughout the month of June, events will be held at different churches in South Calgary as we celebrate Pride Month.
Join us Wednesday, June 26th at McDougall United Church for Open Table, an experience of an Agape Meal featuring a BBQ (hosted by Red Deer Lake’s Men’s Club). We’ll gather around the Table that is open for all, and experience through ritual and conversation the inclusive, diverse table that Jesus prepares for all. Then, we’ll kick back and enjoy some music, dancing, conversation and other fun as we round out our June Pride events!
A huge thank you to Red Deer Lake’s Men’s Club for taking on the BBQ part of the evening.
This event will hopefully happen in McDougall’s parking lot.
Gender Diversity 101 with Cheryl Ward
Join us for a "Lunch and Learn" following the Worship Service to learn the basic background of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. What the letters stand for, the background of the flag, basic terminology, and then focusing on the journey that trans folks progress through (should they choose to). There will be time for questions and discussion following the presentation.
Pie Day
We hope that you will join us after church on Sunday, March 10th for Pie Day.
If you can bring a pie, please sign up here.
To learn more about the Affirming group, please visit the Affirming Webpage.
Pie Day
The Affirming group is hosting PIE day a day rooted in the United Church of Canada tradition. We are publicly showing our affirmation of LGBTQ2SIA+ folks and are showing our commitment to learning and continuing this journey. Doing a PIE event means that we take LGBTQ2SIA+ inclusivity seriously, even while having all of the pie fun!
We use the acronym PIE because it's easy to remember and stands for Public, Intentional, and Explicit: PIE represents three ways for us to test just how real our Affirmation and celebration of gender or sexual diversity is.
Why Pi?
Love is a circle. It’s irrational, inclusive, and infinite. And we’re delighted to add an Affirming twist to International Pi Day celebrations on 3.14, March 14, every year.
Why pie?
Why not! Mmmmm…pie. Is there anything it can’t do? Whether it’s lemon meringue, shepherds pie, or macaroni pie, there’s always something for everyone and everyone gets to be included - that’s what it’s all about.
Please bake, buy, bring a pie to enjoy with every one this March 12 after Sunday service. A sign up form will be available following the service on March 5 or feel free to contact the office.
Affirming Weekend: Fundraising Lunch
We hope that you will join us after the service for a fundraising lunch put on by the affirming team.
This lunch is by donation.
The first Sunday of each month we are trying to connect people who don’t come to church due to not driving with people willing to pick them up (if you are interested in being a driver or being picked up please email the office). Many of these people live in retirement homes and they may miss lunch. That said, we will be offering meals following the service once a month. We encourage you to join us in Hospitality Hall following the service.
Affirming Weekend: Showing of "The Prom"
Celebrate 6 years of McDougall's Affirming Ministry! Join us February 4th at 6 pm for a showing of the movie musical "The Prom." A troupe of hilariously self-obsessed theater stars swarm into a small conservative Indiana town in support of a high-school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom. Starring Meryl Streep, James Cordon, Nicole Kidman. Snacks included!
PIE Day
Join us after the service for some Pie to celebrate Pie Day (Public, Intentional, Explicit). More details to come.
