The Acadia Food Pantry and the new Brown Bag Lunch Program
McDougall recently started a free Brown Bag Lunch Program for the Acadia and surrounding communities. It runs daily, Monday to Friday from noon- 1 pm in the parking lot of the church by the north/west doors. This is a hub where children and others can come and pick up a bagged lunch. If you or someone you know is in need, please take advantage of this service. Moves to new location in August.
The Brown Bag Lunch Program is going well, it took a week or so to spread the word... we have an average of about 25 lunches going out daily, with much more on Pantry days. We are now offering frozen soup or frozen TV dinner as other options than sandwiches. The frozen items are donated from Meals on Wheels. The other day the lunch program got a large donation of eggs, so were able to share a dozen fresh eggs with families.
Sarah and I and our kids continue to go to the Spinz-A-Round Program every Tuesday to collect non-perishable items on non-pantry days and fresh produce on pantry hamper days. The Acadia Food Pantry has seen their numbers going up, and on average there are about 36 hampers handed out at each pantry, with about 6-8 new families. At yesterday’s pantry there were 110 people. There will be two hampers in July again.
One person expressed gratitude for the food. He said that it really made a difference for him and that it was “the thing’ helping him get through the month.
Another person said, “Thank you for doing this, you have no idea the difference it’s making for us with no one in our household working at the moment.”
