2023 - Leadership Council report for September to December 2023

Over the past four months, the Leadership Council has been very active with two regularly scheduled meetings along with two extraordinary meetings. In addition to these meetings many of the Leadership Council members participate in working group meetings and ministerial meetings.

During our regular scheduled meetings, the following key points were discussed and voted upon:

  • After a great deal of discussion and an opportunity to participate in a Chinook Winds Region Town Hall meeting, the council voted in favour of UCC Remit #1. This category 3 remit focuses on Establishing an Autonomous National Indigenous Organization within The United Church of Canada. For more information on this remit please go to https://united-church.ca/news/establishing-autonomous-national-indigenous-organization

  • A shared ministry plan between McDougall United Church, Ogden United Church, and Red Deer Lake United Church was presented to the Leadership Council. This plan has been in a pilot stage, and we continue to evaluate its effectiveness between the three congregations. Additional information regrading this shared ministry will be forthcoming in 2024.

  • We established a new Marketing and Fundraising Working Group under the leadership of Sarah Reuangrith. As this working group begins its work it will be important for additional congregation members to be a part of the team.

  • In May of 2024 McDougall United Church will be hosting the Chinook Winds Regional Conference. This is a very large endeavour, and many hands are required to make this event successful. A planning group of Leadership Council members has been created under the leadership of Rev. Bob Mutlow. More information regarding the conference and volunteer needs will be forthcoming early in 2024.

The Leadership Councils held two extraordinary meetings.

  • The first meeting involved a special request from the Trustees to review the potential of a Telus cell tower lease. The council provided the go ahead for the trustees to proceed with Telus in establishing a reasonable and viable lease/cell tower to be placed on our property. More details will be forthcoming from the trustees as negotiations with Telus proceed.

  • The second meeting was a pre-budget meeting where the Operations Working Group and our Assistant treasurer Bruce Monroe provide the council with a preliminary draft of the 2024 budget.

Thank you to all of our 2023 Leadership Council members and we look forward to continuing our work in 2024 on behalf of the McDougall congregation. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the Leadership Council please contact the church office, Daren Patterson (daren.denise@gmail.com), or Joanne Pritchard (jmpritchard@shaw.ca).

Respectfully submitted by,
